Catholics and Muslims: Dialogue continues,
in the certainty that both worship the same unique God
The first seminar by the Catholic-Islamic Forum was held on 4-6 November in Rome. Organised by the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue and Muslim representatives, it comes in the wake of the open Letter addressed by 138 Muslim scholars to Pope Benedict XVI and leaders of other Churches and ecclesial communities and the reply written on behalf of the Holy Father by the secretary of state. The seminar represents another step in the initiative launched by the Pope in Regensburg in 2006 which sparked a lively debate around the world.
We offer on this issue the point of view of the Oasis Centre , which stresses the newness of the content and method, and an exchange between philosopher Rémi Brague and Islam expert Christian Jambet entitled Christianity and Islam: Is a dialogue possible?, published by Le Figaro on Wednesday, 5 November 2008.
For their part Catholic Bishops call for the creation of "Christian-Muslim dialogue circles"
The Synod of Bishops, dedicated to the Word of God, also came to a close at the end of October. It provided a fruitful opportunity to participants to bear witness as to the real life of Christian communities at home in a variety of places.
