Remembering Louis Massignon

Organised by the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Association of the Friends of Louis Massignon, and under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the conference on 'Louis Massignon and Morocco: Given Words' celebrated the courageous initiative of the great Catholic Eastern scholar in favour of the return of Sultan Mohammed V to Morocco in 1955. During the opening session the Prime Minister, Driss Jettou, read out a letter from Re Mohammed VI; three papers emphasised the role of Louis Massignon 'during the hour of commitment to the independence of Morocco'; and two papers dealt with 'the hospitality of Abraham', a subject dear to this French scholar and one that was fundamental in his idea and practice of Islamic-Christian dialogue the subject of a special round able. The next day was devoted to an analysis of the mystics and language of Massignon and the anthropological and theological perspectives of his work. The proceedings will be published by the King Abdul Aziz Foundation.
