Turkson Peter-K.

Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, the Archbishop of the Cape Coast (Ghana) and the first native cardinal of Ghana, was born in Wassaw Nsuta on 11 October 1948. After his studies at a seminary level, he engaged in a specialisation in Holy Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute of Rome. He was appointed Archbishop of the Cape Coast in 1992 and received his episcopal ordination on 27 March 1993. John Paul II created him a Cardinal at the consistory of 21 October 2003. On 24 October 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace
