He is professor of Near and Middle Eastern Civilization at the University of Toronto. He obtained a PhD in Assyriology and Aramaic Studies at the same university in 1987. He is the author of The Code of Law of Simeon, Bishop of Rev-Ardashir (Gorgias Press, 2020) and The Chronicle of Michael the Great (The Edessa-Aleppo Syriac Codex) (Gorgias Press, 2019).
