After his studies in Modern Literature at the Sorbonne, and Arabic Language at the École des langues orientales in Paris, Christian Lochon has been a teacher in several Arab countries. He has also been the director of the French Cultural Centre in Baghdad (1968-1970), as well as cultural advisor in Khartoum, Sudan (1976-1982) and Damas, Syria (1986-1989). He is now member of the Académie des Sciences d’Outre-Mer of Paris.
