Creating an EU-wide deal on immigration and asylum is a priority for Thursday’s meeting of EU leaders in Brussels. Though the scale of immigration is not as high as in 2015 (when thousands were coming ashore daily on Greek islands), according to the BBC, tighter cooperation between migrants’ home countries and transit countries still must be developed. 

 

Warring parties in South Sudan agreed to a permanent ceasefire, reports Fidelis Mbah of Al-Jazeera. The agreement spurs hope that the country's four-and-a-half-year-long civil war will finally come to an end.
