He is Director of the Center for Middle East Studies and Professor at the University of Oklahoma’s College of International Studies. He obtained a PhD in Middle Eastern Studies at Princeton in 1997. He is a regular contributor to various journals and writes “Syria Comment,” a daily newsletter on Syrian politics. He is the author of numerous scholarly articles and he is a frequent analyst on the media.
