Salah Fadl
Dr. Salah Fadl, born in 1938, received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Cairo in 1962 and was awarded a PhD in literature from Central University of Madrid in Spain. He has taught as Professor of Literature and Literary Criticism in Arabic Language and girls faculties at Al-Azhar University. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Mexico College for Higher Studies from 1974-1977 where he established the Department of Arabic language and literature at the National Independent University of Mexico in 1975. He has been Professor of Literary Criticism and Comparative Literature at the Faculty of Arts in Ain Shams University in Cairo since 1979 up until now. He also was elected Egypt's cultural consultant, and was appointed president of the Egyptian Institute of Islamic Studies in Madrid, Spain, between 1980 and 1985. Dr. Salah Fadl became honorary professor for Higher Studies at the National Independent University of Mexico and an honorary member at the Spanish historic Academic Association. After his return to Egypt, he was appointed Dean of Higher Institute for Literary Criticism in the Academy of Arts in Egypt from 1985 and 1988. In addition, he has been a visiting professor at Sanaa University, Yemen and at the University of Bahrain till 1994. He helped establish the Egyptian Association for Literary Criticism and was nominated its chairperson since 1989. Dr. Fadl was a member of the High Scientific Committee for Professors’ Promotion in Egyptian universities. He has contributed to the foundation of Arabic Humanities Association, and is currently its Vice-President. He led the scientific committee for Islamic and Arab writers and scientists’ encyclopedia in Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALESCO). He was awarded Babeteen Innovation Prize for Criticism of Poetry in 1997, and the National Distinction Prize in Literature in 2000. He was selected as a permanent writer for Al-Ahram in 2002, was elected a consultant for Alexandria library in 2002, was chosen a member of Academy of the Arabic language in Egypt in 2003, a member of the advisory authority of Sheikh Zayed Book Award in Abu Dhabi in 2005, and a member of the arbitration committee in Prince of Poets Contest in 2007. Dr. Fadl has published a number of books, studies, and essays, the most notable being Dialogues in Literary Thought, Speech Rhetoric and Text Science, Literary Content Production, Construction Theory in Literary Criticism, and Reality Pattern in Literary Innovation. After the 2011 Revolution Dr. Fadl participated in the drafting of some documents, signed by al-Azhar and by a group of intellectuals. Among these the declaration by Al Azhar and by the intellectuals on the legal ordinances of fundamental freedoms.
