Sébastien De Courtois, by training a jurist, early on began to be interested in Eastern Christian communities from the perspective of travelling and human discovery. Taking a PhD in historical anthropology (EPHE-GSRL), he studied the Aramaic villages of Tur Abdin, a region where Syriac is spoken in the south-east of Turkey. A journalist and writer, he has published, amongst other works,
