Italy’s interior minister Matteo Salvini shuts doors to Sub-Sahara African ship carrying over 600 migrants, writes Crispian Balmer of Reuters. The occupants of the ship were rescued from waters off the coast of Libya by European charity organization SOS in 6 different rescue missions.

 

A fire at Baghdad's ballot box depot may implicate the call for a ballot recount. News of voting papers destroyed is still inconclusive. The outgoing speaker of the parliamentary elections has called for the vote to be repeated, while current Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi describes the fire as “a plot to harm the Iraqi nation and its democracy” according to BBC News.

 

U.S. President Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the 2015 established pact with Iran that placed limits on Iranian nuclear program in return for the easing of internationally placed economic sanctions. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says U.S. withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal poses a threat not only to the U.S. but to the rest of the world, according to Al Jazeera.

 

Home secretary of the United Kingdom, Sajid Javid explains his stance on the new counter-terrorism plan in The Guardian. He writes of the new plan to target terrorism that, “People cannot feel free to live their lives as they wish without feeling safe and secure. The balance lies in making sure that in protecting our freedom and way of life, we don’t undermine it.”
