Yann Richard is professor emeritus of Iranian Studies at the Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris 3). He had been many times in Iran where he witnessed the turmoil of the Revolution, before he was banned from entering the country again. After his studies in Tuebingen, he was research fellow at the CNRS (Paris) and visiting professor in Los Angeles (UCLA) and Oxford (St. Antony's). His main publications focus on Sociology of Shiite Islam and Iranian History of the 20th century. Moreover, he is member of the editorial staff of the series Social, Economic and Political Studies of the Middle East and Asia.
