She is associate professor of Religious/Islamic studies at the School of Religion in Queen’s University, Canada. She obtained a PhD in Islamic Studies from the McGill University in 1997. She is the author of Islam, Democracy and Religious Modernism in Iran (1953-2000). From Bazargan to Soroush (2001), and of numerous articles on the relationship between Islam, modernity and democracy in Iran.
