Almost a manual on the social, cultural and religious profiles of countries with a Muslim majority (presented through practical, concise tables) all more or less directly influenced by the Mediterranean Sea, from Morocco to Albania, this book reads like a brisk reportage from the minaret-studded lands. The routes are marked by encounters and interviews which, like instant photos, draw the reader close to Christians and Muslims (many of whom, by the way, are Oasis contributors) who have witnessed events, sometimes violent and painful, sometimes showing charity and human solidarity, which have formed the history of these countries. These dialogues, together with the author's rapid sketches of the places visited, prompt the reader to want to know more and to receive these pages as the beginning of a knowledge (to be expanded) of societies still perceived and feared as "other".
