was born in Visoko, Bosnia Herzegovina, in 1952 and is the Grand Mufti of Bosnia (Reis al Ulema), an office to which he was elected in 1999. After studying at the madras of Sarajevo he engaged in study at the al-Azhar University of Cairo before taking a doctorate in Islamic studies at the University of Chicago. He is the member of various institutions, including the Aal Albayt Foundation, the World Conference of Religions for Peace, and the Fiqh Academy in Mecca. He led the Muslim delegation at the first seminar of the Catholic-Muslim Forum held in the Vatican in November 2008.
