Religion, Plurality and the Common Good: The Proposal of the Oasis Foundation Thursday 15th November 2012 Two meetings with H.E. Cardinal Angelo Scola, Archbishop of Milan, President of the Oasis International Foundation Private Briefing, 10.30 am, Committee Room 4A, House of Lords, Westminster And Public lecture and discussion, 3.00 pm, Loyola Hall of Heythrop College, Kensington Square Cardinal Scola, Archbishop of Milan, will present the proposal of Oasis, a Foundation created in 2004 to encourage mutual understanding and opportunities for encounter between Christians and Muslims in contemporary societies. To this aim Oasis publishes a journal in several languages (including Arabic and Urdu), a newsletter and two series of books. Oasis believes that interreligious dialogue involves intercultural dialogue, because religious experience is always lived and expressed through the medium of culture: not merely on the theological and spiritual level, but also on the political, economic, and social levels. The first meeting, chaired by Lord David Alton, is a private briefing for key policymakers, scholars and civil society representatives to facilitate an exchange among the participants. The second meeting a public lecture, is organized in conjunction with Heythrop College, University of London and the Catholic Union.
