Born in Mansoura in 1952 and ordained a priest in 1989, Tawadros II is the 118th Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church and patriarch of Alexandria of Egypt since November 4, 2012. Successor of Pope Shenouda III, who died on March 17, 2012 after a papacy of nearly 40 years, Pope Tawadros was Bishop of the city of Beheira, southeast of Alexandria.
