On 9-10 June 2005, the eleventh Muslim-Catholic Liaison Committee met in Rome to discuss the subject 'Religions and Society: the Role of Religions in Society'. The Catholic delegation was led by Archbishop Michael L. Fitzgerald, President of the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue, and the Muslim delegation was headed by Dr. Hamid Rifaie, President of the Islamic International Forum for Dialogue. This was a small contribution to the building of 'bridges of friendship', to employ the expression used by Pope Benedict XVI on 25 April 2005, 'with the followers of all the religions in order to secure the real good of every person and society as a whole'.
