Theodor Hanf, Dr. Phil, is Professor of Sociology and Honorary Professor of Political Science, Director of the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute for Social Research, Freiburg/Germany, and the Centre International des Sciences de l''Homme, Byblos/ Lebanon. His principal research interest is ethnic conflict and modes for its regulation. He has published monographs on the Congo (1971, 2005), Georgia (2000), the Lebanon (1969, 1986, 1990, 2003), Rwanda (1973), Palestine (1996, 2000, 2005), Pakistan (2005), South Africa (1981, 1995), and edited volumes on social change (1975), Watching Democracy at Work(1999) and Dealing with Difference (1999).
