Tens of representatives of the three great monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) met in Doha, Qatar, for the annual conference of inter-religious dialogue promoted by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Emirate.
The Emir of Qatar, Sheik Hamad Ben Khalifa Al Thani, in his speech to inaugurate the proceedings, pointed to 'three privileged paths of work' for the relationship between the monotheistic religions: improvement in knowledge about each other, dialogue in relation to social and cultural subjects, and cooperation to solve conflicts.
The polemic provoked by the invitation of a number of Israeli rabbis brings out, on the one hand, the incandescent situation that prevails in the Middle East, and, on the other, demonstrates the importance of initiatives such as this.
