Uriya Shavit is Chair of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies and the Graduate Program in Religious Studies at Tel Aviv University, where he also obtained his PhD. His research interests include Islam in the West, democracy and democratization processes in Islamic societies, Islamism and Islamic Law. Among his latest publications: Islamism and the West (2014), Sharī‘a and Muslim Minorities (2015), Zionism in Arab Discourses (2016) and Scientific and Political Freedom in Islam (2017).
