After being awarded a doctorate in Letters in 1982, Abdelmajid Charfi taught Arab Civilisation and Islamic Thought at the Faculty of Humanities of Tunis, of which he was also the Dean from 1983 to 1986. He has been the director of the series Ma‘âlim al-Hadâtha of Sud Editions (Tunis). Amongst his works: Al-islâm bayna al-risâla wa-l-târîkh (Islam Between Message and History), Al-islâm wa-l-hadâtha (Islam and Modernity) and Al-islâm wâhidan wa muta’addidan (Islam One and Multiple).
